Janis Joplin (January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970)

'60s singer/songwriter Janis Joplin began her ascent to fame as the vocalist for Big Brother & The Holding Company, before striking out on a successful solo career. She often used drugs and alcohol, particularly while on tour. According to a biography about her life, she died after using heroin which was made too pure. She was found dead on the floor of her room at the Landmark Motor Hotel in Los Angeles by her band's road manager.

Bradley Nowell (February 22, 1968 – May 25, 1996)

Nowell was the guitarist and singer for California ska-punk band Sublime. Their early work was self-distributed, and gained them a huge following in their home state, but no major-label interest. Nowell developed a serious heroin habit, which did not abate when a major label finally came knocking. Prior to the release of their newly-completed debut for MCA, and after a mini-tour through California, he was found dead in a hotel room in San Francisco by Sublime's drummer Bud Gaugh.

Pete Farndon (June 12, 1952 – April 14, 1983)

Farndon was an original founding member and bassist for The Pretenders. He also sang backup vocals and contributed as a songwriter as well. He was fired from the band in June of 1982, after the band began achieving international success. According to bandleader Chrissie Hynde, he became very difficult to work with due to his drug use. He was found dead in his bathtub, apparently drowning after a heroin overdose.
